Using a ramdisk for gaming

Where did you read that. Because it seems strange to me that a ramdisk would increase FPS. It might decrease loading times, and thus make the game faster. But atm I am lost to see how it would increase the framerate. I am not sure how a ramdisk could increase FPS performance, what would you be using the ramdisk for since it only creates a virtual disk in RAM? Add a comment.

This "software" sounds like expensive junk. Know what a ramdisk is to avoid saying embarrassing things. If you're running or a laptop or have a UPS then you don't have to worry about losing your data in mem.

So if you need something to really scream run it on a RAM disk. From what I'm reading elsewhere Win is doing a good job of mem manaagemnet so save RAMdisk for unique situations. Show 2 more comments. There's the physical bottleneck of the hard drive and data transfer speeds. Software can't bypass that.

It's pulling it off but leaving it on, little if any need to go back to the hard drive for what you've pulled. Get it?

I already made the point about games using the available memory by default. But I suppose your first point is right, it would have to be pre-loaded onto the RAMDisk before playing.

I'm not absolutely sure about this but I have a feeling the Amiga had a RAMDisk that developers did use to speed up certain programs. The problem we had until recently was low RAM. Now that we are back to having a surplus, maybe this is something that we will see in future. RAMDisks are not usually for the average user.

They appeal more to power users who want them for specific uses. Creating a RAMDisk has become something quite simple and user-friendly. In this tutorial we will show how to make a RAMDisk that starts on boot-up and saves to an image. Type your image name, define where it will be stored, and set its size in MB. Most users need not worry about many of them except the option to save the contents of the RAMDisk to an image every x minutes. This will ensure there is no data loss in the event of a power surge.

You can now install programs on your RAMDisk and use it however you see fit. I personally find that file-intensive games like Planetside 2 benefit greatly from being on a RAMDisk.
